About this magazine

Rancho Santa Fe Living is an independent editorial magazine devoted to a singular place: the wooded hills, gated lanes and village arcades of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and the country life that grows there. We publish essays, guides and field notes about the housing market and how to read it, the neighborhoods and how they differ, the architectural traditions that keep the community coherent, and the gardens, trails and seasons that make the address worth having.

The magazine is written by its editors and updated as our understanding deepens. Our signature resource is the field guide to Rancho Santa Fe neighborhoods; around it sit longer essays on market mechanics, California ownership rules, and the building styles of the region, plus a journal of occasional dispatches. Every piece names what it is and stays inside what it can honestly say: we describe landscapes, histories and processes, and we leave inventories, predictions and transactions to the people licensed to handle them.

We read widely, favor primary sources such as recorded covenants, public agency material and standard architectural histories, and we prefer explaining a mechanism to quoting a number. When we get something wrong, the editors want to hear about it: our contact page carries the address.
